Dr. Truong attended the Whittier College in Whittier, California and was awarded her B.A. in Biochemistry, magna cum laude, in 1995. She earned her M.D. degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York in 1999. She was awarded a Masters in Public Health (M.P.H.) in Clinical Effectiveness from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2009.
After completing residency training in Internal Medicine (1999-2002) at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center, Dr. Truong was the recipient of the Glorney-Raisbeck Fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases of the New York Academy of Medicine and spent one year as Postdoctoral Research Fellow in The Breslow Laboratory of Biochemical Genetics and Metabolism at The Rockefeller University in New York City. Dr. Truong continued her training and completed a 3-year Fellowship (2003-2006) in Cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Truong then joined Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and focused on Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI as an NIH T-32 Clinical Research Fellow from 2006-2009, and stayed on as cardiology faculty at MGH/Harvard Medical School until 2014.
Dr. Truong joined the Â鶹¸ßÇå faculty in 2014 and became Professor of Radiology and Medicine in 2020. She is the Director of Cardiac CT at Cornell, and under her leadership, grew the cardiac CT program more than 5-fold to over 4000 cases annually. Dr. Truong has Board Certification in the American Board of Internal Medicine—Cardiovascular Disease and Certification Board of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.
Her research interest is in the use of cardiac CT for the evaluation of ischemic heart disease and cardiac interventions in electrophysiology and structural heart disease. She played pivotal roles in examining the role of cardiac CT in patients with acute and stable chest pain in landmark trials which have shaped guidelines, including NIH-funded “The Rule Out Myocardial Infarction Using Computer Assisted Tomography Study [ROMICAT I and II]” and “PROspective Multicenter Imaging Study for Evaluation of Chest Pain (PROMISE)”. She is the CT lead at Cornell for trials involving transcatheter valve replacement and atherosclerosis.
Dr. Truong has published over 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts, review articles, and book chapters, including leading journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine and Circulation. She is Associate Editor for Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging, Imaging Section Editor for Current Treatment Options in Cardiovascular Medicine, and on the Editorial Board for Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging.
She is active in national professional societies. She is on the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) Education committee, Boards of Directors (SCCT representative) for the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), and American College of Cardiology (ACC) Scientific Session Program Committee. In addition to clinical and research activities, she teaches residents, fellows, and medical students. She has taught multiple “hands-on” Cardiac CT courses nationally and internationally, including the SCCT CTA Academy.
